Mayor Dave Bronson was inaugurated over the weekend, and already he's facing opposition to his housing plan. Turns out, East Anchorage residents are just as opposed to the idea of having a mass shelter in their neighborhood as Midtown residents were about having treatment centers in theirs. Flyers encouraging citizen to contact the Mayor's office have begun to circulate after organizers vowed to "hit the streets".

Then, an email between Anchorage Assemblyperson Jamie Allard and a constituent reveals that Allard may have been aware of a COVID-protocol capacity violation and done nothing about it. Given that the effort to unseat both Felix Rivera and Meg Zalatel hinged on similar violations, this could be a giant push forward for the Recall Allard effort.

Meanwhile, it's been a few weeks of healthy tourism downtown, but 4th of July weekend really felt like Anchorage was finally back in full swing. Jean Bundy writes from the Anchorage Museum, where tourists and local patrons alike filled the halls with vibrance, as she profiles the elaborate and ornate woodwork of Ron Senungtek.

Finally, Snarley Brown writes up the latest from the Alaska hip hop scene. Live From The North is a collective of emcees and beatmakers who have teamed up to put AK Hip Hop more directly into the mainstream. While they may have an uphill battle making inroads into the dominating folk/jam scene Alaska can't fill up on, Live From The North is already carving out a space for themselves.
